about

"Schönen guten Tag"!
In summer 1982, four young musicians bravely enter the hallowed halls of Frankfurt's music scene: The Hotline Studio. A demo tape they had brought with them is handed at reception without much ado, and they are determined not to leave the studio until someone had examined the material.

As hunger and thirst are getting to the musicians, the door to the monitoring room bursts open and an excited and arguably important person appears shouting, tape in hand waving "Who did this, where is this band?" The Pavian Band is still there and there is no fuss - the next day the contract for a record production is signed and sealed. A little later the recordings begin. The band records all the songs live in three days. At the mixing desk is none other than the young English sound engineer Jon Caffery, who had already worked for bands like Tubeway Army and Joy Division and was to oversee the productions of Abwärts, Einstürzende Neubauten, Die Toten Hosen and Ton Steine Scherben in the course of his impressive career.

Forget about further details: The record was finished, but never released. One exception was the song "Eigenheim", which found it's way on a Neue Deutsche Welle sampler, at least in good company with Falco's "Maschine brennt". Some big record companies showed interest, but in the end the band was not ready to give in to demands and requests from the music industry. Leading the way was PAV, the singer and guitarist who penned the lyrics. A true punk who would rather continue to live happily ever after with his 100 white rats in his little flat than be enslaved by capitalism. Unfortunately, PAV passed away in 2012. So, this late release is also a tribute to this great man.

The original sound recordings are lost. But Jon Caffery did not miss the opportunity to restore the remaining forty-year-old stereo cassette copies. The result is an album that is like a journey back in time to the beginning of the eighties.
